My name is Ruth and I live Brooklyn, New York with my cat Peter, the namesake of Peter Piper. I'm a multidisciplinary artist with a deep love for fiber arts and anything paper related.
Most of my textiles are created using ice dying, a process where items are coved with ice and powder dyes. Beautiful patterns and color variations are created as the ice melts and the dye is dispersed through the fabric. I don't have any control over what the ice will do which is what makes it exciting for me. There's always a surprise in the end. Sometimes the results are overdyed (dyed a second time) or used as the base for wax batik.
My handmade papers are created from recycled papers and materials. I started making paper after art school, where I studied printmaking. I had amassed tons of artist proofs and other scraps of beautiful cotton paper. I wanted to do something with all of it and I decided to recycle them into my own sheets. Today I make all of my papers in small quantities, and no two batches are alike. Many papers have unique inclusions like shaped glitter or foil confetti. I love the interest that these add and I have to admit, I'm a sucker for anything sparkly.
